Squarespace is rebranding its scheduling product - Squarespace Scheduling. And its new name won't surprise long time Squarespace users.

Background

Squarespace bought a system called Acuity scheduling about 4 years ago. Acuity was integrated into the Squarespace platform and named Squarespace Scheduling.

But Acuity isn't just a component of the Squarespace content managment platform. It's also a standalone produce that integrates with many other CMS's.

The upshot is that two, essentially identical, scheduling solutions were being offered. Until today. Or yesterday, actually.

Squarespace has announced it will group both scheduling offerings under the Acuity brand name.

In fact, the rollout of the new consolidated brand name has already happened. Subscribers to Squarespace Scheduling now see Acuity Scheduling within the Squarespace admin system.

This makes a lot of sense to me. There must have been a lot of work - and cost - involved in maintaining two, pretty much identical, scheduling systems under different brands.

It couldn't be renamed Squarespace Scheduling because the system also works outside of Squarespace. So Acuity is the natural choice for a brand name that can pull everything together.

One minor worry I have is that many of us old hand Squarespace experts have grandfathered free Acuity accounts and I hope they don't get mothballed as a part of this brand consolidation. We'll have to see.
